A couple of weeks before New Orleans closed the book on 2025, the developer leading the project to transform the former naval base in Bywater announced that critical financing had been secured and construction would begin in late January.
With plans for affordable housing and a technology hub, it was major news not just for the city but also for the region, and City Council Member Freddie King III says he’ll be watching closely as he begins his second term representing District C.
One of his priorities this year “is making sure the Poland (Avenue) naval station project starts off on a good food and it’s completed,” King says. “That’s a big project we’ve helped in my first term get funding, get permitted — a lot of behind the scenes things that folks didn’t realize were being done. We’ve helped get it to this point, and I think it’s very important the project comes to fruition. It can be a game changer for the city.”…
