Colombian Singer-Songwriter Yeison Jiménez Dies in Tragic Plane Crash Hours Before Performance

COLOMBIA – The music world is mourning the sudden loss of 34-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter Yeison Jiménez, who tragically died in a plane crash on Saturday, just hours before he was scheduled to perform. The accident, which occurred in the area between Paipa and Duitama, claimed the lives of all six people on board, including the beloved musician.

The Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics confirmed the crash, which also took the lives of five other individuals traveling with Jiménez: Jefferson Osorio, Juan Manuel Rodríguez, Óscar Marín, Weisman Mora, and Captain Fernando Torres. The plane is believed to have been owned by Jiménez’s firm, YJ Company SAS, and reportedly crashed shortly after takeoff as the group was en route to Medellín for his performance that evening.

A heartfelt statement released on Jiménez’s official Instagram account conveyed the profound grief felt by his organization and team. “With heavy hearts and a pain impossible to describe, the organization and team of Yeison Jiménez deeply regret to inform you of his passing,” the statement read. “Today we say goodbye not only to an artist; we say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of dreams and courage, who transformed his story into hope for thousands of people.”

The statement highlighted Jiménez’s dedication and impact, remembering him as an embodiment of “perseverance, discipline, and love for his community.” It continued, “His voice and his example were born from hard work, and that is why they will forever mark the lives of those who followed and loved him.”

The message extended gratitude to fans, colleagues, and media for their outpouring of support, prayers, and love, while also requesting privacy and respect for the grieving families during this difficult time.

“Yeison may be gone physically, but his legacy lives on: in his songs, in his words, in his struggles, in his refusal to give up, and in the indelible mark he leaves on Colombian regional music and in the hearts of his people,” the statement concluded. “His light will continue to shine every time someone sings one of his songs and remembers that it is possible to overcome adversity.”

Adding a somber note to the tragedy, Jiménez had recently shared with Colombian TV station Caracol a series of vivid premonitions he experienced about dying in a plane crash. He recounted dreaming three times of a crash, where he would instruct the pilot to turn back, only for the pilot to confirm a malfunction that was subsequently fixed.

In one of these dreams, he saw himself and his team dying and appearing on the news. “God gave me three signs, and I didn’t understand them, I didn’t get them,” Jiménez had stated.
