Nancy Mace proposes to stop taxing over-the-counter medicine

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — SC Representative Nancy Mace made an announcement Monday morning at Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Mace proposed legislation to eliminate South Carolina’s sales tax on over-the-counter medicine, which currently adds 6 to 9% to the cost of these essential health items.

It is reported that the average American household spends about $450 per year on over-the-counter medicines, which include pain relievers, cold and flu medications and allergy treatments. South Carolina is one of 35 states that still impose a tax on these items…
