Deadly shooting in Frayser might have stemmed from argument over a broken headlight, records allege

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – FOX13 obtained court documents revealing new details on what might have led to a deadly shooting outside a Frayser home early Friday morning.

Court records state it all started after a woman pulled into a driveway of a home on North Trezevant after she realized one of her car’s headlights was out. A man came outside and told her to leave, records show.

The woman later told investigators that her passenger, identified as Rodriquez Poplar, tried to explain what was going on and the homeowner opened fire on the man, striking him in the stomach. According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), the man died at a hospital.

Officers were in the area heard the gunfire and responded. They arrived to find Tommy Applewhite holding a gun. Applewhite was charged with second-degree murder and was due in court Monday morning, records show…
