Man arrested after 15 pounds of methamphetamine allegedly found in traffic stop, home search

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – One man was arrested and charged in Amarillo Federal Court in early January after about 15 pounds of alleged methamphetamine were found in total between his home and a car in which he was a passenger during a traffic stop.

According to documents filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Amarillo, Kevyn Andre Smith was charged with alleged “possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine” on Jan. 5.

On Jan. 5, according to court documents, the Department of Homeland Security and Amarillo Police Department were conducting surveillance on Smith as part of a methamphetamine smuggling investigation. Smith was allegedly seen as a passenger in a 2020 Nissan sedan and was seen by officers entering and leaving a home that belonged to him, which was allegedly identified “as a stash house associated with the distribution of methamphetamine.”

After Smith left the home as a passenger in the sedan, Amarillo police officers stopped the car in the 2100 block of Country Lane. After officers were given permission by the driver to search the car, they allegedly found a vacuum sealed package containing about 2 pounds of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat…
