Greeley Police Department Searching For Attempted Homicide Suspect, Victim in Critical Condition

The Greeley Police Department (GPD) is searching for a suspect in an attempted homicide that occurred on Sunday January 4. The suspect is David Anthony Rios, 48, who is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, a 44-year-old woman. The victim was transported to the North Colorado Medical Center and underwent surgery for more than 16 stab wounds. She was in critical, but stable condition according to the latest statement from the GPD made on January 7.

According to the initial investigation, the victim was in her residence when Rio attacked her with a knife in the kitchen. The victim’s 56-year-old brother attempted to intervene and also sustained injuries, but his condition has not been provided by the GPD. The victim escaped to the neighbor’s house, but Rios followed her and continued to attack her before fleeing the scene. Authorities later located his abandoned vehicle in the 1300 block of 4th Street. GPD is continuing to search for Rios, but says there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

Weld County arrest records show that Rios was arrested by the Greeley Police Department in September 2021 for violating a restraining order and again in November 2021 for a protection order violation…
