The city of Akron will pay $47,500 in an excessive force lawsuit nearly two years after police officer Thomas Shoemaker body-slammed Dierra Fields during a family argument.
Attorney Imokhai Okolo, who represents Fields, announced the finalized settlement amount on his law firm’s Facebook page on Jan. 12. The settlement agreement was approved Dec. 11 in Summit County Common Pleas Court.
“Since January of 2024 Dierra has had to fight criminal charges, fight the doubt, fight the city, fight the police department, and after all the struggle she has come out VICTORIOUS!! Through it all The Okolo Law Firm has been by her side and I am proud to have been her lawyer in this fight,” Okolo wrote on Facebook.
