Reported transformer explosion causes widespread power outages on Cleveland’s west side, officials say

CLEVELAND — Officials at the scene confirmed to 3News that a reported transformer explosion has caused widespread power outages on Cleveland’s west side Monday evening.

Lt. Mike Norman, a spokesperson for the Cleveland Division of Fire, told 3News multiple power lines are down across the roads following “some type of electrical event.” According to Norman, the incident took place just before 7 p.m., and Cleveland Public Power has since confirmed the issue emanated from their West 41st Street Power Plant.

As of just after 7:30 p.m., West 41st Street was completely blocked at the exit ramp at Interstate 90. 3News crews observed widespread apparent outages on Bridge Avenue at the intersection of West 54th Street…
