Three arrested after dozens of dogs found dead, emaciated in Lee County

BEAUREGARD, Ala. (WRBL) — Three people are in custody after deputies say dozens of dogs were found dead and starving at a home in the Beauregard community.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 10:45 a.m. Monday to a report of possible animal cruelty in the 8100 block of Lee Road 146. Investigators say they discovered approximately 29 deceased dogs in the backyard of the residence. Authorities say the animals, ranging from puppies to adult dogs, had been placed in plastic bags and thrown into a pile.

Inside the home, investigators found approximately 24 additional dogs alive; but appeared to be severely emaciated. Lee County Animal Control took custody of the surviving animals…
