Grand Rapids Tex-Mex restaurant to shut down, citing falling sales

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Asada, a restaurant in Grand Rapids’ Eastown neighborhood with a Tex-Mex flair that specializes in tacos, barbecue and smash burgers, is closing on Sunday, Jan. 25.

The restaurant’s owner and chef, Steven Martinez, made the announcement on social media, saying the business at 1450 Wealthy St. SE is “no longer sustainable.”

Sales dropped significantly starting in late October and haven’t recovered, leaving Martinez without “the resources we needed to stay open,” he told MLive. Sales in December 2025 were down 39% compared to that August…
