Memphis, TN, January 11, 2025: A federal jury has found Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, a Memphis-based gynecologist, guilty on 40 of the 46 federal counts he faced, following a weeks-long trial that detailed widespread health care fraud and unsafe medical practices at his women’s health clinic.
The verdict was delivered after nearly five days of jury deliberations. Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on the remaining six counts.
Federal prosecutors said Kumar carried out thousands of medically unnecessary procedures, primarily hysteroscopies with biopsies, over a five-year period between 2019 and 2024.
