UPDATE (6 p.m.): News 5 spoke to several downtown Mobile residents and business owners, who said the smoke from the early morning barge fire had become overbearing.
Michael Lanar was visiting his parents in downtown Mobile when he noticed the smoke while at a local coffee shop.
“I was running down to Nova Espresso, and I started smelling it,” said Lanar. “It was like super chemical, like, almost plasticky or something, and then I saw everywhere covered in smoke over there.”…
