Off-duty LSU officer rescues injured truck driver after interstate crash in Alabama

(WAFB) – While traveling through Alabama with his family, an LSU Police Department sergeant stopped to help after coming upon a serious interstate crash involving an overturned 18-wheeler.

Authorities say Sgt. T. Schiebe encountered the wreck after the tractor-trailer suffered a tire blowout and overturned on the roadway, trapping the driver inside the cab.

Despite being off duty and away from Louisiana, Schiebe assessed the scene and extricated the injured driver by cutting him free and guiding him through the shattered windshield.

After removing the driver from the vehicle, Schiebe continued providing care. When another motorist brought a first aid kit to the scene, he assisted in controlling bleeding and dressing the driver’s injuries until emergency medical services arrived.

“His willingness to act, regardless of duty status or location, is an example of the dedication our officers bring to public safety every day,” LSUPD said on social media…
