HealthSource RI enrollment down amid ‘fear and uncertainty’ of no Obamacare subsidies

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island health insurance officials said enrollment in the state’s health exchange HealthSource RI is down, and thousands still haven’t made payments to renew their coverage ahead of the Jan. 31 open-enrollment deadline.

The lagging enrollment comes as Congress mulls whether to reinstate hefty subsidies that make health insurance more affordable. Last Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 230-196 for a bipartisan bill to restore Affordable Care Act subsidies that originally passed in response to COVID-19. The measure to extend the credits by three years now heads to the U.S. Senate.
