Cyclist fatally struck by SMART train in Santa Rosa

A cyclist was fatally struck by a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train traveling southbound through Santa Rosa on Monday morning, officials for the transit agency said.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. at an intersection where the train tracks cross Piner Road, officials said. The train, traveling from Windsor to Larkspur, had five passengers and two  crew members aboard, none of whom were injured.

The identity of the cyclist was not immediately known but officials said he was pronounced dead at the scene…
