New power plants, gas pipelines, data centers – what some may see as signs of modern progress and development, others see as a powerful threat to the environment and our rural South Carolina way of life.
A proposal is pending to locate a massive data center near Walterboro, in the environmentally sensitive ACE Basin watershed area.
While this may seem like a peripheral issue for residents of Hampton, Jasper and Beaufort counties, and of more direct concern to Colleton County citizens, when coupled with a proposed major power plant and a pending natural gas pipeline project in the same general area, this trio of projects would have a major impact on the infrastructure and natural resources of the ACE Basin and the S.C.
