Mississippi synagogue arson suspect identified, admits to targeting building because of its “Jewish ties”, FBI reports

FBI officials said that a suspect in the arson fire at Mississippi’s largest synagogue admitted to targeting the building because of its “Jewish ties.”

Stephen Spencer Pittman was charged Monday with maliciously damaging or destroying a building by means of fire or an explosive, the FBI said.

Pittman is a suspect in a weekend fire at the Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson that occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday. Security camera footage released on Monday by the synagogue showed a masked and hooded person pouring a liquid on the floor and a couch in the building’s lobby…
