ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR/Gray News) – An Illinois grandmother who cut life insurance coverage to save money is sharing her dying wish, pleading for enough support to make it to her final resting place beside her dad.
Christy Schroeder, 52, chuckles, looking through old photos while lying in her hospital bed in Rockford. She flips through memories of trips to Disney World, a visit to the mall with her granddaughter and selfies from healthier times.
Before battling cancer, she worked as a certified nursing assistant in memory care for 12 years.
“I think about all the time in the years that I took care of other people, and now, I’m in their shoes,” she said. “I always gave everybody the best care that I could. Now, I’m receiving pretty good care, so karma works its way around.”…
