Police alert residents after string of overnight carjackings across Chicago

CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago police are warning residents to stay alert after a series of carjackings and armed robberies reported across several neighborhoods this month.

According to CPD, the incidents happened at the following locations and times:

  • 1900 block of East 80th Street in South Chicago on Jan. 3 at 2:07 a.m.
  • 1500 block of North Kingsbury Street in Goose Island on Jan. 3 at 3:20 a.m.
  • 1000 block of North Ashland Avenue in West Town on Jan. 3 at 3:30 a.m.
  • 8100 block of South Elizabeth Street in Auburn Gresham on Jan. 3 at 10:35 p.m.
  • 500 block of West 81st Street in Auburn Gresham on Jan. 6 at 1:40 a.m.
  • 1500 block of East 79th Street in Grand Crossing on Jan. 7 at 4:32 a.m.

Police say four to five males wearing dark-colored clothing and ski masks exited a stolen vehicle, approached victims while displaying handguns and demanded their property and vehicles.

After the carjackings, some of the suspects returned to the stolen vehicle they arrived in, while others drove off in the victim’s car. In one incident, police say four armed suspects took the victim’s property and fled in the same stolen vehicle they used to approach the victim…
