BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — 20-year-old Maya Hernandez is accused of leaving her one-year-old son in a hot car on a 101 degree day last June while getting a cosmetic procedure in south Bakersfield.
Her son died due to the heat and her murder trial ended with a hung jury. The jury could not decide between murder or the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. Protesters stood outside the Kern County courthouse calling for the District Attorney to retry Maya Hernandez with murder.
