Suffolk police chief says violent crime has dropped in the city

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Suffolk Police Chief Danny Buie says violent crime has dropped significantly in the city.

On Jan.9, he announced that murders are down year-over-year by more than 50%. There were 11 murders in 2024 and five in 2025.

He added that there was a 17% decrease in Part 1 offenses, which are serious or violent crimes, last year, and he said overall crime is down 26% over the last three years…
