Woman Charged with Smuggling Knife into Jail

A body scanner at the Detention Center found a knife that a woman allegedly tried to smuggle into the facility.

Ashley Shantell Shaw,35, was charged with possession of a weapon by a prisoner, disorderly conduct at a school, trespassing on and impeding a school bus, and misdemeanor child abuse, according to arrest reports. Her bond was set at $30,000. Shaw gave her address as 14374 Old Lake Rd., Riegelwood.

The sheriff’s office reported that Shaw was brought to the detention center to be processed on the school-related charges after being taken into custody at the courthouse Jan. 8. She was “thoroughly” searched when she was detained, the report said…
