Headless deer lead DNR officers to prolific poacher who was cruising with a rifle

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – The first two reports of headless deer being found near a known hunting area raised concerns. Then a third deer was found in the same vicinity, also with its head severed. And this one was still fresh.

It was enough to prompt the local Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers to organize a stakeout to see if they could catch the poacher they believed was responsible for the shoot-and-dump deer killing spree in Lenawee County late last year.

According to recent DNR enforcement reports, the search for the suspect began after Conservation Officers Andrew Monnich and Joel Hill took a complaint from a hunter who had found two headless deer near his hunting property…
