LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A retired Los Angeles police officer faces charges connected to a deadly hit-and-run near the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign earlier this month, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.
Edward Dias, 77, faces a charge of duty to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death or bodily harm — a felony. He posted $100,000 bail shortly after his arrest and was not scheduled to appear in court again until March.

Court documents initially identified Dias as a 27-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. After the 8 News Now Investigators inquired with that department about Dias’ employment history, a representative confirmed Dias was never employed with them. The 8 News Now Investigators then asked the Los Angeles Police Department if Dias worked there.
