Yesterday felt more like early spring than mid-winter for many neighborhoods. Afternoon temperatures climbed into the mid-50s across the metro and valleys, while parts of the coast warmed into the upper 50s. Astoria stood out as the warm spot, briefly reaching the low 60s. It was a noticeably warm finish for January standards and a sign of what’s sticking around.

FOG SLOWS THE MORNING START

Today will bring a similar temperature setup, but the morning begins with a catch. Dense fog is already settled in early, cutting visibility in some areas and slowing commutes. A Dense Fog Advisory remains for areas in gray, while a Freezing Fog Advisory for areas in blue is in effect until 11 a.m., especially for low-lying spots. Once the fog clears, skies will brighten in many places and temperatures will rebound quickly.

By afternoon, it will feel mild again for most, with readings returning to the 50s, especially where sunshine breaks through.

DRY WEATHER HOLDS FIRM

There will be little to no rain through early next week, keeping travel and outdoor plans weather-friendly. Roads stay dry, and umbrellas stay parked. While the region stays rain-free overall, how it feels outside will depend heavily on location.

GRAY VALLEYS, WARM HILLS, AND COAST

Lowland valleys that don’t benefit from steady air movement — especially Salem through Eugene — are likely to spend long stretches under clouds and fog over the next week. In those areas, it may stay cooler and dimmer for much of the day…
