Man caught swimming in Ala Wai Canal after fleeing police for traffic violations

HONOLULU (Island News) – A man attempted to avoid the police for multiple traffic violations in Waikiki by swimming in the Ala Wai Canal on Monday.

According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), a 29-year-old man was taken into custody after failing to comply with a lawful order to stop his vehicle following multiple traffic violations in Waikiki.

The man was seen driving recklessly on Kalakaua Ave and collided with an electrical box. Officers then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the driver refused to comply and fled the scene.

Officials didn’t confirm whether or not any injuries were made as a result of the reckless driving.

The 29-year-old man’s vehicle was found abandoned as he fled on foot into the Ala Wai Canal, where he was subsequently arrested…
