Buffalo ICE arrests Afghan restaurant owner convicted of stabbing sister

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Buffalo arrested an Afghan national convicted of attempted murder after he stabbed his 19-year-old sister, authorities said.

Waheed Allah “Jay” Mohammad, 39, was taken into custody in Rochester on Jan. 1, ICE said. A News 8 journalist spoke with Mohammad’s brother, Reza, off camera at Jay’s Kitchen on Merchants Road on Monday evening. Reza confirmed that Mohammad co-owned both the Merchants Road location and Jay’s Halal Cuisine on West Henrietta Road.

Mohammad lawfully entered the United States on May 24, 2004. In 2009, he was convicted in New York of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault for an attack on his sister following an argument. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision…
