Evansville officer back on duty after fatal shooting of Everett Nunn

EVANSVILLE — The Evansville police officer who shot and killed Everett Nunn while responding to a domestic dispute has returned to duty as a city-led internal investigation continues.

The officer, Nicholas Helfert, had been placed on paid administrative leave following the Nov. 22 shooting.

“The investigation is still open pending toxicology,” Sgt. Anthony Aussieker told the Courier & Press. He wouldn’t say whether the investigation had, thus far, uncovered any potential evidence of wrongdoing…
