Lease to end for restaurant at historic Alabama beach landmark

It appears a coastal Alabama restaurant known for its one-of-a-kind beachfront vantage point will lose its lease regardless of the outcome of ongoing litigation with a property owners association.

It’s the latest chapter in a fracas that has made waves on Dauphin Island for several years now. Late last week, the Dauphin Island Property Owners Association shared an announcement that its board had decided not to renew a lease that allows Pirates Bar and Grill to operate in the old Isle Dauphine Country Club facility, which DIPOA owns.

Pirates’ ownership, in return, accused DIPOA of failing to maintain the property to such an extent that the restaurant has been “forced to turn down events, lose business opportunities, and, in many instances, make repairs out of its own pocket simply to remain operational.” Additionally, a well-known attorney once active on the property association board weighed in to say the organization’s actions could hurt it financially…
