KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Somewhere out there, there is a Tennessean who loves a meme, pop culture reference or profane word so much that they want everyone along their daily commute to see it. Unfortunately for them, the Tennessee Department of Revenue has keen eyes.
We asked the state to send us all the personalized license plate submissions that were rejected in 2025. There were 870 of them last year, which was 320 more than 2024!
When a personalized plate is rejected, the state also blocks that combination of letters and numbers from being submitted again on its application website…
