Rhode Island businessman sentenced on tax evasion charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A 60-year-old Cranston man was sentenced to two years’ probation and the payment of $1.37 million in restitution in U.S. District Court on Tuesday for underreporting income to avoid paying taxes from 2007 to 2013.

William L’Europa pled guilty to the charges in 2025. With the plea deal, he avoids prison time.

This is not L’Europa’s first run-in with the law on tax evasion charges. In 2012, he was convicted alongside business partner John McCauley for underreporting business receipts from 2007 through 2010, and was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison…
