TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa father has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for killing his newborn daughter, the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office announced.
Cortavius Thompson was sentenced Tuesday by a judge in Hillsborough County.

“Your mistakes resulted in the death of your child, which is tragic,” the judge said. “It’s tragic for the child, it’s tragic for your former girlfriend, for her siblings. It’s tragic for you.”
A jury found Thompson guilty of third-degree murder at a December trial, during which it was revealed that Thompson’s daughter suffered a deadly skull fracture while in his care in 2022.
