NORFOLK, Va. — A state historical marker recognising the Attucks Theatre is scheduled to be unveiled next week in the City of Norfolk.
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) announced that the marker, approved by the Virginia Board of Historic Resources, will be dedicated on Monday, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m. at the theatre’s location at 1010 Church Street. The event is free and open to the public, with free roadside parking available.
A brief dedication program will take place inside the Attucks Theatre before the marker is unveiled outside the building. Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Ph.D., is expected to offer opening remarks, followed by comments from former Vice Chair of the Attucks Theatre Centennial Commission Charles Johnson and DHR Community Outreach Coordinator LaToya Gray-Sparks.
