MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Verona-based Epic Systems and a group of health care providers are suing a health information network and others, alleging Tuesday the companies are not protecting patient privacy and sensitive information.
The lawsuit alleges health network Health Gorilla enabled companies, including Mammoth and RavillaMed, to improperly access and profit off of nearly 300,000 patient medical records from Epic members.
The lawsuit, filed by Epic and health care systems nationwide, states these companies exploited confidential patient records for profit without getting the patients’ consent, and allegedly inserted junk data into patient records “to give the false impression that they are treating patients, which risks patient safety and wastes valuable clinician time.”…
