St. Louis City has ceased its search for vervet monkeys

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Department of Health has called off its search for an unknown number of monkeys said to be roaming around the city.

On Monday, Jan. 12, the city shifted its efforts from investigation to enforcement of its wild animal ordinance, according to Justin Hauser, the health department’s environmental health bureau chief.

According to the city’s code of ordinances (10.24.010), “No person, except as provided in this chapter shall own, keep, or harbor within the City of St. Louis, any of the following animals: … R. All non-human primates.”…
