Colorado man charged after multi-county police chase in West Virginia

WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man from Colorado has been arrested and is facing charges after troopers with the West Virginia State Police say he stole a car and led them on a multi-county police chase.

According to a criminal complaint, on Jan. 11, at around 10:02 p.m., troopers were patrolling in the area of East 3rd Street near the intersection of Brown Avenue in Weston when they saw a sedan driving at “an extremely high rate of speed” heading into Weston.

Troopers said they then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which “did not stop but instead accelerated rapidly,” traveling at around 70 miles per hour in a posted 25 zone in the opposite lane. The vehicle then sped through “multiple intersections” in a “reckless manner” before turning onto U.S. 19 South.

While traveling on U.S. 19, the vehicle reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, running a red light before making its way to the Interstate 79 onramp, the complaint said. While attempting to turn onto the I-79 onramp, deputies said that it turned “at a very high rate of speed and crashed into the median,” taking down two road signs in the process and disabling its headlights…
