Residents concerned over ICE presence flood Cheektowaga Town Board meeting

People in Cheektowaga are calling for an end to Cheektowaga Police working with federal ICE agents. This comes partially in response to the recent shooting in Minnesota.

Residents called for the town council to support the NY for All Act, which prohibits and regulates the discovery and disclosure of immigration status by state and local police with federal immigration enforcement.

“Do we want to be the next Minneapolis? Already, Cheektowaga is disproportionately represented, and involvement with ICE activity accounts for two-thirds of all arrests where local police assisted. What kind of community can we have when our residents cannot even safely access the services they pay taxes to be able to utilize without fear of repercussions?” said resident Rachel Martinez…
