15 dogs, 29 cats and other animals rescued from Evansville home

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — 15 dogs, 29 cats, four chickens and five ducks were rescued from an Evansville home on Tuesday night.

An affidavit obtained by Eyewitness News says officers were called to a home in the 2300 block of Franklin Street on Tuesday to assist animal control. Animal control officers told police several animals were in the home with no access to food and water. The two living in the home were identified as Joshua and Alee Nelson.

The officers say they found 15 dogs in kennels around the home, all with feces and urine inside them. Outside of the home, officers found five ducks and four chickens inside a fenced-in backyard. Animal control found a room in the basement that Nelson did not show the officer. Inside the room were 25 cats. Officers say they had to use breathing masks to enter the room due to the smell. Inside the room was a kiddie pool and buckets filled with feces, with more feces all over the floor…
