KINGSBURG – After years of planning and fundraising, a steam engine-sized piece of history has found its new permanent home in Kingsburg.
On Jan. 12, community members and rail fans gathered at the Kingsburg Depot for the arrival of the Southern Pacific steam locomotive No. 1238 and its accompanying tender. As a project that’s been years in the making, attendees were eager to see the metal behemoth find its new resting place in the city, and are excited to see what it brings to the community.
“I literally jumped up and down today when I saw it lifted up, and a little tear shed just because of all the hard work I’ve put into it, and also all of our donors and my members of the board,” said Michelle Roman, President-CEO of Friends of the Historic Kingsburg Depot (FHKD). “It’s a team effort, but this has been a labor of love, and I’m just so excited it’s finally here.”…
