GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Burlington woman wrote two personal checks to a roofing company so they could start doing repairs due to wind and hail damage. The total $750. It’s not unusual to pay some of the money upfront, and then the rest when the work is done.
But then the insurance company wrote the woman a check to cover the full repairs, $ 4-731. And she signed it over to the roofing company. You can probably guess what happened next: nothing, as in no work.
