Orleans defendant asks to withdraw guilty plea after lawyer Tanzanika Ruffin’s alleged misconduct

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – An Orleans Parish defendant who accused his attorney of defrauding he and his family out of hundreds of thousands of dollars has asked to withdraw his guilty plea.

Kai Hansen asked Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge Robin Pittman to allow him to withdraw the plea he previously made in a March battery case.

In court records, Hansen accused his former attorney Tanzanika Ruffin of defrauding he and his family out of at least $250,000. Ruffin is accused of fabricating a restitution settlement, as well as inflating bond requirements, as a part of the alleged scheme. Federal authorities now are allegedly investigating…
