ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An animal welfare group is calling for an end to elephant captivity at the ABQ BioPark Zoo, citing stress indicators like bobbing and swaying in its recent campaign to end zoo captivity.
In Defense of Animals has ranked the BioPark as the seventh-worst zoo in North America for elephants. The group criticizes the zoo for “reckless breeding” and the deaths of baby calves.
