It took seven hours, an endless stream of interjections from the audience, and hundreds in attendance to elect the first new board of the Farmer’s Union Ditch Company since the mid-1980s.
On Saturday, Farmer’s Union held its annual meeting for shareholders and interested HOA residents who get irrigation water from the canal serving Northwest Boise, Eagle, and Star in the ballroom at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City. The normally sleepy affair was upended this year by a crowd of shareholders with hopes of forcing an election of a new board to kill a $20 million project to discharge recycled wastewater from the Eagle Sewer District into the canal.
