Police release new details in deadly East Bay motorcycle crash

(KRON) — The Fremont Police Department has released more details related to a deadly motorcycle crash that killed a 49-year-old man from San Jose Monday.

The motorcyclist, Andrew Barrett Mackenzi, was riding near the intersection of Cushing Parkway and Northport Loop at about 3:09 p.m. when he crashed with a pickup truck, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Police investigating the crash suspect that the truck was accelerating at a green light on Cushing when the motorcycle attempted to pass the truck in a construction zone.

“The #2 lane of the roadway was closed for construction, with adequate signage and cones to direct traffic,” Fremont PD said. “… The motorcyclist arrived at the limit line and accelerated to pass on the passenger side of the truck. The spacing was limited due to the construction zone. The motorcyclist hit a few traffic cones and attempted to merge into the #1 lane. The motorcycle and the truck then collided in a sideswipe-type collision. The motorcyclist then lost control and fell to the ground, where he was struck by the truck’s rear passenger tire.”

The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries an hour later. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash…
