Plans underway to build Saturn 1B replica rocket, two years after it was taken down

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – For 44 years, the iconic Saturn 1B rocket stood tall along I-65 in Ardmore, welcoming people into our state. A little over two years ago, the rocket was taken down due to safety concerns.

For years, state leaders have discussed the idea of placing a replica rocket in the spot where the original Saturn 1B once stood.

State Representative Andy Whitt said the design plans for the replica rocket are in the works, and construction should be getting underway very soon…
