Fairhope councilman stands alone against rezoning: “We need to listen to our constituents”

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A Fairhope city councilman was the lone opposition vote to rezone a 10-acre parcel from R-A residential/agriculture to R-1 single-family residential. The land is located on State Highway 181 near the Quail Creek Golf Course. City records state the property owner wants to redevelop the site into a neighborhood. Councilman Joshua Gammon, who is serving his first term, says a new neighborhood will only add to the traffic woes in the area.

“We need to listen to our constituents who have told us time and time again, control the growth, don’t eliminate it. I’m not opposed to this person putting more lots onto their property within the zoning that they are within the city, but I can’t support it in good faith,” said Gammon…
