Fairhope man sentenced in federal court on drug trafficking, gun charges

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Fairhope man has been sentenced in federal court in Mobile to more than 11 year on multiple charges, including drug trafficking.

U.S. District Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced Christopher Lynn Barnwell to serve nine years for trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl, and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama announced.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Barnwell sold meth and fentanyl to confidential informants four times between November 2023 and January 2024 while on federal release.

Authorities executed a search warrant Jan. 22, 2024, at Barnwell’s Fairhope home and seized baggies containing 188.6 grams of 96% pure meth and 18.46 grams of fentanyl from a safe, court documents revealed. Agents also found a Ruger 9mm pistol in an air vent…
