Ventura meeting speakers unhappy over trees cut down in midtown

More than 10 people addressed the Ventura City Council in public remarks on Jan. 13, with many upset over eight trees that were cut down on Vista Del Mar in December.

Resident Glenn Overley said property owner Ventura Coastal began removing protected overwintering trees on Dec. 20 without a permit, with councilmembers on recess and limited city staff.

“It was quite frankly a perfect storm for clandestine removal,” he said. “Cut first. Ask questions later.”…
