Environmental services department quickly cleans sewer spill in Kaneohe

KANEOHE, Hawaii (Island News) — The city’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) quickly cleaned up a sewer spill in Kaneohe near Valley of the Temples on Tuesday morning.

The sewer spill happened at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the intersection of Hui Iwa Street and Kahekili Highway in the area of Valley of the Temples. ENV arrived at the street by 11 a.m. to clean up the spill and they were able to stop the flow within 10 minutes.

ENV determined that a failed air relief valve caused the spill, which led to an estimated 1,500 gallons getting discharged. Crews recovered approximately 400 gallons and 1,100 gallons dissipated into the ground…
