HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The berths on the Diamond-Head side of Pier 16 are closed indefinitely due to damage from a fishing vessel.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced the closure Wednesday after a 79-foot vessel lost power and hit the bridge infrastructure supporting Nimitz Highway.
The waters surrounding the pier are also closed to all vessel traffic, officials said.
This marks the third major incident involving vessels attempting to berth at Pier 16 Diamond Head in the past two years…
